Payload, capacity and quality clinch it for Charles Jackson

12-08-2012

Low unladen weight, high capacity and proven durability were just some of the reasons agricultural processing specialist Charles Jackson & Co Ltd chose PPG when it needed to buy two new trailers. The Northants based company recently took delivery of a PPG blower and tipper to augment its small but varied trailer fleet and, according to Transport Manager Liz Maddison, it has proved to be the right move. “We decided on PPG because we got such good service from a United trailer which we have had for a good number of years”, said Liz. “Now that United is part of the PPG division of Weightlifter, we asked them to quote for the new trailers. Mark Nichols, PPG’s regional sales manager, couldn’t have been more helpful, advising us on specifications and paying attention to detail to ensure we got exactly what we needed. We also asked our drivers for their input to make sure they were happy with our choice.” And the newcomers are more than living up to expectations in service. The tipper gives Charles Jackson a half tonne payload advantage over other comparable trailers in the fleet, while the blower has allowed the company to increase its payloads. “Both trailers are built to a very high standard and we’ve had no problems with them at all, not even the sort of teething troubles you normally associate with new equipment. “Overall we are very pleased with our decision and are looking forward to getting many years excellent service from these well built trailers,” added Liz. Charles Jackson provides a variety of services to agriculture, in particular processes which enhance the value of cereal and grain products. It has its own extensive processing facilities and offers storage as well as haulage for third parties. As the new trailers have to operate in farm yards and other areas where manoeuvrability is an issue, they were specified with lifting third axles. “We really like the smooth, plank-sided construction,” said Liz. “It makes the trailers easy to clean, which is very important for us as we are very much a part of the food industry. PPG supplied the trailers fully liveried and ready to go to work immediately. Mark came along when they were delivered to make sure we understood how everything works and to iron out any other potential issues.” The trailers will clock up around 100,000 km a year collecting and delivering to a wide variety of customers all over the UK. Charles Jackson runs five tractor units and maintenance for these and the trailers is undertaken by outside suppliers, although Charles Jackson & Co is a full O licence holder.
