What do you think? Can homemade rustproofing formulas compete with commercial products and stand the test of time?
In recent years, thin film lanolin solutions have become quite popular. These solutions, containing varying degrees of lanolin, are designed to easily coat your vehicle with minimal equipment. But do they work?
Well, yes, but not for long (in my opinion).
Whether this is a problem depends on your expectations of the product, its cost, how long it lasts, and the time it takes to apply. These products typically require re-application once or twice a year.
These lanolin formulas generally contain around 8-15% lanolin, with the rest of the product likely being a vegetable oil or solvent.
Rustbuster Corrolan Pure contains approximately 70% lanolin and can be thinned with Corrolan Turbo to create your own custom thickness lanolin recipe. This has always been the plan, and we sought the best solvent possible for this purpose. As you’ll see in Trev’s video, the penetration of the Corrolan Turbo thinner is quite impressive, using this thinner as a carrier to move lanolin into the metal provides an excellent rustproofing formula.
Trev’s Home Brew Formula?
Trev created a formula of 50% Corrolan Pure and 50% Corrolan Turbo. Both of these products can be purchased separately, or you can simply buy the Corrolan Penetrator, which is already thinned 50/50.
