Hot Fog Rustproofing – A Serious Solution for Long-Term Vehicle Protection

16-06-2025

At Rustbuster, we specialise in protecting vehicles from corrosion using tried-and-tested, cost-effective solutions. While full underbody restorations can be time-consuming and expensive, many vehicles benefit from a more focused and less invasive method—Hot Fog Rustproofing.

This service is part of our wider vehicle protection offering, designed to halt existing corrosion, displace moisture and help preserve the structural integrity of your vehicle’s underbody and internal cavities.

Preservation, Not Restoration
Hot Fog Rustproofing is a preservation treatment rather than a complete restoration. It doesn’t involve stripping and repainting every component. Instead, we apply a methodical approach that includes deep cleaning, mechanical preparation, rust treatment, and protection using Corrolan’s lanolin-based systems—all aimed at achieving durable, effective results.

We never apply coatings over dirt or damp surfaces. Every job begins with thorough preparation to ensure each layer works exactly as intended.

✔ The Rustbuster Process – Completed in Just 1.5 Days
Every vehicle is assessed by a trained technician who tailors the treatment plan to suit the vehicle’s age, usage and overall condition.

1. Strip & Clean
Steam cleaning using:

  • Chlor-X Salt Remover to lift away winter salt build-up

  • Traffic Film Remover to get rid of oil, dirt, and grime

  • Plastic wheel arch liners and undertrays are removed for full access

2. Drying

  • Warm air blasting using a powerful 10 hp system

  • Infrared heaters ensure all cavities and surfaces are thoroughly dried

3. Rust Removal & Treatment

  • Loose or flaky coatings and rust are removed with tools such as the MBX Metal Blaster

  • Remaining rust is stabilised using:

    • Rustbuster FE-123 Molecular Rust Converter, or

    • Corrolan Penetrator for soaking into affected areas

4. Underbody Protection

  • Application of Corrolan Pure, a lanolin-based underbody coating known for its flexibility, water repellency and excellent resistance to road salt and debris

5. Hot Fog Cavity Waxing

  • Heated Corrolan Active cavity wax is injected into sills, chassis legs, inner wings, doors, bonnets and boots

  • The heated wax fogs into seams and hard-to-reach cavities, pushing out moisture and forming a long-lasting barrier

6. Reassembly & Finishing

  • All undertrays and plastic liners are reinstalled

  • Any visible wax overspray is cleaned away

  • A final inspection is carried out before handover
