Technical News - GRP develop Side Sliding Freezer Door for Vauxhall Movano

07-09-2012

GRP have produced a side sliding freezer door and modular rear doors for the new Vauxhall Movano. The former replaces the traditional and more expensive side plug door which is usually fitted onto such a vehicle. GRP believe the obvious cost benefit has not been at the expense of any loss in thermal efficiency due to advances in the door insulation materials. There is a further important weight benefit as the new door configuration allows for increased payload on the 4.5 tonne van. The van also contains meat rails and aluminum protection and therefore the weight benefit on the door configuration is crucial with the load being primarily heavy meat carcasses. The van has been converted using the CORE-tecc process. This involves wet lay laminating the entire interior of the vehicle to provide increased strength, especially in the roof where the meat rails are fitted. The van has also been impregnated with an anti-bacterial coating to inhibit growth of microbes, such as bacteria, mould and mildew that can cause stains, odours and deterioration. GRP are the UK’s largest temperature controlled van converter and have been established in Leeds for nearly 40 years.
