Three Quarters of UK Fleet Operators Now Rely on Video Technology

15-12-2020

Three Quarters of UK Fleet Operators Now Rely on Video Technology Nearly three quarters (74%) of U.K. fleet operators currently have in-cab or forward-facing video technology deployed in their vehicles, according to new research commissioned by Motor Transport and Commercial Motor and supported by Lytx®. In addition, 15% of respondents who had yet to deploy video technology said they would like to do so in the next 12 months. The study explored attitudes towards camera technology amongst fleet managers, including the reasons for using it and what would influence their purchasing decision. When asked which areas they had seen improvements in as a result of vehicle camera technology, 56% of operators cited improvements in driver behaviour. 47% stated they had seen a reduction in incident reporting, with 29% saying personal injury claims had been reduced. The ability to improve safety standards, to improve driving behaviour, and to cut insurance costs were the same three leading factors in the initial decision making process. Of those using camera technology, 43% classified it as ‘invaluable’, while 33% said it is ‘very valuable.’ Damian Penney, Vice President of Lytx Europe said: ‘‘The adoption rate of camera technology is increasing as operators see tangible evidence of how it can improve driver safety, as well as reducing the costs that arise from collisions, claims and insurance. This research proves that in-vehicle technology is no longer seen by fleet managers as a nice to have – but as an essential part of their overall fleet management strategy.’’ To download the full report, click here.
