SECOND-HAND CAR SALES UP IN THE UK

06-04-2023

The number of used cars sold in the third quarter of this year increased by one per cent compared to the previous three months, the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows. This is Money shared the findings, revealing that used diesel car sales were up by 1.4 per cent in the same period. By contrast, registrations of new diesel cars were down by 28.3 per cent in October this year compared to the same month in 2018. Overall, the SMMT data showed that new car registrations were down by 6.7 per cent year on year. However, when you look at registrations for the different categories of cars, one really stands out: mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) diesel models, which have increased by 378.1 per cent year on year. This is Money noted that it’s interesting to see an increase in used diesel cars being bought, given that the government is targeting these kinds of vehicles with higher taxes. They will also be affected by any clean air zones that are introduced in cities around the UK. Karen Hilton, from heycar, a site that specialises in selling second-hand autos, told the news provider that for many people, diesels are still a good choice. “In the absence of a scalable solution on alternatives, in many cases diesel may well still be the more attractive option – especially as prices are increasingly attractive,” she asserted. If you’ve got a second-hand car, you could make sure you’re getting the best out of it by taking it for car tuning in Manchester.
