MICROLISE HELPS FLEETS TACKLE DRIVER DISTRACTION WITH BREAKTHROUGH AI CAMERAS Microlise Group has launched new AI driver-facing cameras to help address the critical issue of driver distraction. The ClearVision AI Distraction Camera is described as a breakthrough in technology, using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to detect and mitigate distractions, significantly improving fleet safety. One of two safety-forward products set to launch this year, the new solution is the latest milestone in the company’s ongoing work to create safer roads. Developed for vehicles from vans all the way through to HGVs, the new solution is the latest milestone in Microlise’s ongoing work to create safer roads An estimated 80% of all road traffic accidents are caused by distracted driving, and Microlise says its new ClearVision AI Distraction Camera will fill a gap in the market for an innovative solution to get to grips with the issue and will help ensure the wellbeing of their drivers and wider communities. Fully integrated within the Microlise fleet management platform, the driver-facing camera enables near real-time monitoring of driver behaviour. It’s designed to accurately detect various forms of driver distraction – including mobile phone usage, eating, drinking, and smoking – and provide immediate feedback to drivers, helping them understand the risks associated with their behaviour. Drivers are given real-time audio and visual alerts to reinforce safe driving habits and reduce the likelihood of accidents. If these are ignored, an event is registered in the Microlise system, which can then be picked up at debrief. The video evidence enables fleets to review incidents and provide a basis for targeted coaching and training to drivers when necessary. The product is currently being piloted by four large-scale transport operations globally – one business which runs a 200-strong vehicle fleet has reported an 80% reduction in mobile phone distraction and a 43% reduction in overall risk after just three months. The ClearVision AI Distraction Camera and wider camera solution can also help to reduce insurance premiums, improve fuel efficiency, and enhance compliance with regulatory requirements. Nadeem Raza, Microlise Group CEO, said: “We are thrilled to introduce our ClearVision AI Distraction Camera, which represents a major step forward in fleet safety technology. Driver distraction is a serious issue that requires proactive measures, and our cameras offer a proactive and effective solution. “By leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, we can create a safer driving environment and, ultimately, help to save lives.” Written by Natalie Middleton for Van Fleet World © 30th June, 2023.
