Insurance Fraudster £75k whiplash scam

A driver of a Ford Galaxy swerved across the path of a lorry traveling at 55mph on the M25 and braked. The lorry driver was forced to slam on his brakes, but could not avoid crashing into the back of the Galaxy, which then veered into the next lane. Incredibly, the motorist and passenger filed four whiplash claims, a total of up to £75,000, insisting the incident was the lorry driver’s fault. Footage captured by the lorry’s on board camera proved the car had deliberately driven into the lorry’s path, making the insurance claims fraudulent. Such faked accidents are making Britain the whiplash capital of the world according to insurers. Industry experts estimate around 60% of the 550,000 whiplash claims filed each year in the UK are “crash for cash” scams, netting up to £1 billion a year. According to the AA, since 2006 there has been a 60% rise in personal injury claims while the number of reported accidents on UK roads has fallen by 20% over the same period. Fraudsters running crash scams, which stage car accidents and then file claims for injury and damage, have blighted the insurance industry.
