HGV Brake Tests – did it really ‘PASS’ ?

07-05-2019

When getting a brake tet at PMI is the ‘Pass’ on a Roller Brake Test really a pass ? – not if it’s accompanied by the words ‘Insufficient Load on Axles 2,3 and 4’ What you have there is a ‘false pass’ and the expectations of the enforcement agencies is that you load the vehicle to 65% of the GVW (or GTW), make sure that load is evenly distributed across the axles and resubmit it for test – how many of you do that ? The shocking regularity with which we’ve seen clients just accept a ‘false positive’ at PMI due to their lack of knowledge is alarming – and information to help them is readily available – see the link to the DVSA advice below https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-heavy-vehicle-brake-test-best-practice-guide/the-heavy-vehicle-brake-test-best-practice-guide
